Traffic Generation Challenge 2: Setting Up Onsite SEO & Content
Posted by Sant Qiu in : Traffic Generation on October 15, 2007 , trackbackThis is the second part of my “Traffic Generation Challenge” where I attempt to drive massive traffic to my brand new blog starting from zero, with little technical knowledge.
There are still a lot to do if I’m to reach my target of getting ranked 150,000 by the end of the month. I realized that it’s really a stretch. I’m not even sure whether Alexa or Google will be able to record and reflect the changes within such a short period of time. But we’ll see how it goes. The traffic stats will still be recorded and I will reveal that at the end of the month.
The past few days I’ve been following Gobala’s Wordpress+Adsense System proves to be a very useful guidebook. It goes in-depth and explains what needs to be done AND how to do it. And it covers much more than just using Adsense in your blog. In fact, if you’re starting a new blog this guidebook is critical for you to start on the right foot. I am learning a lot of things I wouldn’t even know (and would’ve lost out because of it) if I’m not following it. I highly recommend it.
Content:
Before I start to drive outside traffic to my new blog, I have to ensure that there’s enough good content for them to arrive to. At the end of the day you would want your readers (the new traffic) to stay on and become loyal readers. So it make sense when you drive traffic to your blog/site, there must be good content & value there for them. That’s why I’ve uploaded a few articles that are relevant to my niche: Online and Offline entrepreneurs & small business owners.
Subscription:
Other than posting good, relevant content, it’s always a good idea to start building relationship with your readers. One way of doing that is to encourage & make it easy for them to subscribe to your blog/site. You can see that on the top right of the sidebar I’ve installed an opt-in form for readers to be notified of new posts. I use GetResponse’s autoresponder service for this. Another very established service provider for this is Aweber.
On top of that I’ve also added a Technorati plugin. This will help to get my articles/posts ‘tagged’ based on the relevant contents so that people can discover my blog from Technorati’s site. On top of Technorati’s plugin, Ive also installed other plugin to make my blog more SEO friendly and ’sticky’. The following are plugins I’ve installed so far:
- Akismet - To prevent spamming
- Get recent comments - Display recent comments and trackbacks
- Google XML sitemaps - Generate sitemap for your blog to make them SEO friendly
- Headspace2 - To manage your meta-data such as your keywords/tags, titles, descriptions etc
- Optimal title - To make the title of your blog page SEO friendly
- Simple tags - For easy tagging - SEO purposes
- Sociable - To make it easy for readers to subscribe to your blog using a variety of services such as del.icio.us, digg etc
- Wordpress.com stats - To keep track of the stats of my blog.
Now if those sounds too technical, don’t worry. I don’t know any of them when I’m starting just a week ago. This is where guidebooks like Wordpress+Adsense System and Atomic Blogging help tremendously. I just read and follow the instructions provided. Wordpress+Adsense System even have a 7-day action plan that is particularly handy.
Another very informative guidebook I found is the Blog Profits Blueprint by Yaro Starak. If you don’t know yet, Yaro is one of the elite bloggers in blogosphere. He literally makes full-time income by only blogging in average about 2 hours a day! His income? How about more than US$10,000! His blog is one of the blog I’m learning from. And best of all, he shares his monetizing secrets in his report Blog Profits Blueprint for FREE! That’s right he is giving it away!
I’ve learned a lot from it. You will discover that while Adsense is the most popular and ‘easiest’/most convenient way to monitize your blog, it’s not the most profitable. Yaro also shares his most profitable monetizing methods. And I encourage you to grab it too.
Next:
I’ll start to actively drive external traffic to my blog.
