Traffic Generation Challenge 5: The Result & Evaluation

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

This is the last part of my “Traffic Generation Challenge” where I document my efforts of driving massive to this brand new blog from scratch, with little technical knowledge.

October had passed and as promised I’m sharing with you the statistics of the traffic generated since the start of the challenge, 20 days ago (from 11th October). Since then I’ve used my brand new blog as an experiment to apply those traffic strategies taught by various people online. I’m interested to see whether the strategies really deliver great results or are they just hype. In this post I’ll share with you the results I got from what I did and my personal views on the various traffic generation strategies.

The context of this challenge is to get:

  • Targeted (quality) traffic

  • FREE ‘organic’ (non-paid) traffic

  • Maximum result with minimum effort

Here’s the result: (more…)

Quality Traffic VS Quantity Traffic

Monday, October 29th, 2007

As I apply various strategies to drive traffic to my blog I can see that there are huge differences between Quality traffic (targeted) vs. Quantity traffic (huge numbers but might not be targeted). Depending on the purpose of your blog, one or the other will be more useful for you.

Quantity traffic:

Many of the traffic strategies I see being shared in articles, blogs and forums are geared to generate quantity traffic. That is driving massive spike of traffic to a site or a blog. This will results in a huge jump in visitors and your blog ranking will suddenly jump.

Many bloggers do this to get good ranking and visitor stats. However, most of the time these type of traffic won’t become loyal readers / subscribers to your blog. Following is one of the ways you can do this: (more…)

Traffic Generation Challenge 4: Article Marketing & Forums

Monday, October 29th, 2007

This is the fourth part of my “Traffic Generation Challenge” where I document my efforts of driving massive to this brand new blog from scratch, with little technical knowledge.

Frankly I have been busy with other project commitments that I’ll be launching in the next couple of weeks, however, visitors to my blog keep increasing consistently. My blog ranking has also improved steadily.

This result probably reflects more accurately of someone who is starting out blogging part-time, compared to those who are doing this full-time. And if you’re doing this full-time, imagine how much better you can do. Interestingly, as my ranking climbs up, the jump in ranking is not as dramatic as when I was just starting. This is because now the ‘competition’ is getting stiffer. And as my blog goes up higher in ranking, I foresee this trend to continue.

There are still 2 days left before the end of the month, when I will tally the improvement that I’ve achieved within the past 20 days of the “Traffic Generation Challenge”.

The next step in the process is to do some article marketing and commenting in relevant, highly-ranked, forums and blogs.

Article marketing is one of the best ways I know to drive relevant and targeted traffic to your blog. Article marketing gives you a few benefits: (more…)

Traffic Generation Challenge 3: The Start Of Marketing Outreach

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

This is the third part of my “Traffic Generation Challenge” where I document my efforts of driving massive to this brand new blog from scratch, with little technical knowledge.

In my previous post, I explained that I’ve provided some good content for my target market-entrepreneurs and business owners, to ensure that my blog adds value to the people who arrive at it. I’ve also added a way for them to subscribe to my blog to increase the chances of them coming back to my blog again and again.

I’ve also added a few plugins to make the blog more user-friendly for both the readers and myself. While there are still a lot more plugins that I can use (there are literally thousands of good plugins available for free, the key is to know which ones are useful for you), for now the ones I’m using are enough.

Now my blog is ready to be presented to new readers and so I started to actively drive traffic from external sources to my blog. Here’s what I did: (more…)

Traffic Generation Challenge 2: Setting Up Onsite SEO & Content

Monday, October 15th, 2007

This is the second part of my “Traffic Generation Challenge” where I attempt to drive massive traffic to my brand new blog starting from zero, with little technical knowledge.

There are still a lot to do if I’m to reach my target of getting ranked 150,000 by the end of the month. I realized that it’s really a stretch. I’m not even sure whether Alexa or Google will be able to record and reflect the changes within such a short period of time. But we’ll see how it goes. The traffic stats will still be recorded and I will reveal that at the end of the month.

The past few days I’ve been following Gobala’s WordPress+Adsense System proves to be a very useful guidebook. It goes in-depth and explains what needs to be done AND how to do it. And it covers much more than just using Adsense in your blog. In fact, if you’re starting a new blog this guidebook is critical for you to start on the right foot. I am learning a lot of things I wouldn’t even know (and would’ve lost out because of it) if I’m not following it. I highly recommend it.

Before I start to drive outside traffic to my new blog, I have to ensure that there’s enough good content for them to arrive to. (more…)

Traffic Generation Challenge 1: Learning & Planning

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Intro: This is the first posts in the series of “Traffic Generation Challenge”. In the next 20 days, till the end of this month (Oct ’07) I will be applying traffic strategies to drive massive traffic to this brand new blog, starting with no traffic at all. My initial traffic statistics.

As I apply those strategies, I will also share with you the results I’m getting. Whether those strategies actually increase my web traffic or not. Mind you, I’m a technical idiot (the designer did all this pretty stuff). So I’ll be keeping technical stuff to a minimum and rely more on my marketing skills.

But first, let me put things into some contexts. For the purposes of this challenge I was looking for a few things namely:

  1. Targeted (quality) traffic

  2. FREE ‘organic’ (non-paid) traffic

  3. Minimum effort, maximum result

My ambitious goal is to be ranked 150,000 by Alexa by the end of the month. I know it’s ambitious, but I’m pretty excited about how this will turn out.

See How I Drive Traffic To A Brand New Blog

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

It’s time to drive traffic here. And this will be fun!

Couple of weeks ago I installed this brand new blog. And this gives me an opportunity to start applying some of the traffic generation strategies to see how fast I can drive traffic to this new blog. So I’m gonna set myself the “Traffic Generation Challenge” for my brand new blog!

I would’ve started driving traffic here earlier, unfortunately just couple of days after I installed this blog, it crashed! I was trying to upgrade my wordpress to the latest 2.3 version and I must have done something wrong. The whole blog just crashed. Since I’m technically challenged, it took me quite a while to get it back up. But even now there are some bugs that need to be fixed.

Here’s where I’m starting at: (more…)
