    Anything… Whatever… Really?

Posted by Sant Qiu in : Eye On Singapore on October 12, 2007 , 1 comment so far

I’m starting this new category: ‘Eye On Singapore’ to write about anything that is happening in Singapore, where I’m staying. Therefore this probably relate more to Singaporeans than anybody else. Hope you like this.

If you live in Singapore you probably have heard of, maybe even come across… or even bought the new can drinks ‘Anything’ or ‘Whatever’. Those are two new brands produced by a local company ‘Out Of The Box’.

Advertising was very aggressive when they were launching the drinks a few months back. They advertised on TV, taxis, buses, bus-stops and many other media. And many people tried the drinks. Afterall they had an unusual concept.

Anything Whatever cansAll the consumers know is that ‘Anything’ is a carbonated drink, while ‘Whatever’ is non-carbonated. ‘Anything’ is made in six flavours: Cola, Cola with Lemon, Apple, Fizz Up, Cloudy Lemon and Root Beer. ‘Whatever’ is made in six flavours as iced tea: Ice Lemon Tea, Peach Tea, Jasmine Green Tea, White Grape Tea, Apple Tea and Chrysanthemum Tea.

But the cans have generic design so you won’t know which flavour of ‘Anything’ or ‘Whatever’ you’re getting. The concept came about from the owner’s observation that his friends and a lot of Singaporeans are just indecisive when it comes to ordering drinks. Asked “What do you want to drink?” The answer most of the time will be “Anything.” or “Whatever.” And a concept is born. It promises “A surprise in every can”.

    What a brilliant concept! … … …

Traffic Generation Challenge 1: Learning & Planning

Posted by Sant Qiu in : Traffic Generation on October 11, 2007 , 4comments

Intro: This is the first posts in the series of “Traffic Generation Challenge”. In the next 20 days, till the end of this month (Oct ‘07) I will be applying traffic strategies to drive massive traffic to this brand new blog, starting with no traffic at all. My initial traffic statistics.

As I apply those strategies, I will also share with you the results I’m getting. Whether those strategies actually increase my web traffic or not. Mind you, I’m a technical idiot (the designer did all this pretty stuff). So I’ll be keeping technical stuff to a minimum and rely more on my marketing skills.

But first, let me put things into some contexts. For the purposes of this challenge I was looking for a few things namely:

    1. Targeted (quality) traffic

    2. FREE ‘organic’ (non-paid) traffic

    3. Minimum effort, maximum result

My ambitious goal is to be ranked 150,000 by Alexa by the end of the month. I know it’s ambitious, but I’m pretty excited about how this will turn out.

If you’re interested to drive traffic to your site/blog, especially if you’re just starting with a brand new site/blog like me, this might be something you’ll be interested in. Bookmark or subscribe to this blog.

    Alright then, let’s start! (more…)

New Blog, New Purpose, New Look

Posted by Sant Qiu in : News, Updates & General on October 9, 2007 , add a comment

I think it’s important to start a new project with a clear purpose. You might have heard of the saying “Start with the end in mind”. That’s very good advice. Without having a clear ‘end’ or goal, it’s very easy to get distracted from your original path. It’s even easier to get distracted on the Internet. The Internet is the epitome of distraction. With the vast data available in the ‘information superhighway’ it’s easy to get lost.

Too many people who ventured into the Internet get sidetracked precisely because they didn’t start with a clear (long-term) goal in mind. So it’s very useful to write down your purpose for your blog and stick it in front of your computer, to remind you and prevent you from getting distracted.

I also encourage you write down mid-term and short-term goals to be achieved. The more specific the goals the better they are. However, don’t get too anal about it. I used to get too detailed and spent too much time trying to get the perfect goal that I got into ‘paralysis of analysis’.

So here are my goals for my blog: (more…)

See How I Drive Traffic To A Brand New Blog

Posted by Sant Qiu in : Traffic Generation on October 7, 2007 , 3comments

It’s time to drive traffic here. And this will be fun!

Couple of weeks ago I installed this brand new blog. And this gives me an opportunity to start applying some of the traffic generation strategies to see how fast I can drive traffic to this new blog. So I’m gonna set myself the “Traffic Generation Challenge” for my brand new blog!

I would’ve started driving traffic here earlier, unfortunately just couple of days after I installed this blog, it crashed! I was trying to upgrade my wordpress to the latest 2.3 version and I must have done something wrong. The whole blog just crashed. Since I’m technically challenged, it took me quite a while to get it back up. But even now there are some bugs that need to be fixed.

    Here’s where I’m starting at: (more…)

7 Marketing Secrets Struggling Businesses Are Too Wimpy To Apply

Posted by Sant Qiu in : Marketing Maneuvers on October 6, 2007 , 2comments

When entrepreneurs and small business owners got to know that I help companies boost their profits with better marketing, they would always ask for advice. A lot of the time after asking them a few questions I would know why their businesses were struggling.

They were just too wimpy to apply any real marketing!

“Ok, here’s what you can do…” I would say. And predictably they would say things like, “Oh… but we can’t do that.” “Erm, I don’t think it will work for my businesses.” “Isn’t that too hard sell? We’re not a hard sell company” “Will that be too much?” and many other excuses.

In my years of consulting with many different businesses I found that most small businesses are just too coward to do aggressive marketing. Sometimes I wonder why they are in business in the first place. Below I’m sharing 7 marketing strategies that I see are sorely lacking in small businesses. When applied, these strategies will create literally instant positive impact to your bottom line.

Positioning Strategies For Real Estate Agents

Posted by Sant Qiu in : Strategic Positioning & Branding on October 5, 2007 , add a comment

Just recently I was asked to do a talk for my good friend and co-author of our best-selling book in Singapore titled ‘Get Rich Now: 15 Strategies from a Self-made Millionaire‘, Dr Dennis Wee. (Dr Wee is one of Singapore’s most celebrated entrepreneurs. Despite not having completed his high school education, he managed to start and build up his own real estate company, Dennis Wee Group, to become of Singapore’s leading real estate companies generating S$3.8 billion worth of sales in 2006.)

He wanted me to share some marketing secrets with his real estate agents and I was more than happy to do so because I believe there’s so much more that agents can do to position, brand and market their services. Sadly, most agents, whether in real estate or financial services (insurance) or any other industries, tend to see themselves just as a salesperson. This perception of themselves is limiting their growth and income!

By thinking that they are just salespeople, they don’t see the possibilities of growing their careers into full-fledge businesses. There are so much more benefits for someone to think big and build a big business, compared to just existing, and making a living. Donald Trump said: “If you’re going to be thinking, you might as well think big.” But that’s another topic for another session.

Here, I’m going to show you some detailed examples of how an agent can differentiate himself using some simple positioning and branding strategies that I have used with other clients to great success. (more…)

    Strategic Positioning For Profits

Posted by Sant Qiu in : Strategic Positioning & Branding on October 5, 2007 , add a comment

As human beings we tend to label things, to generalize things, to simplify, so that we can assimilate the tons and tons of information that are being dumped our way every single waking hour. We become so good at it that it becomes a subconscious activity. To demonstrate:

You won’t notice your breathing pattern (until I mentioned it), the weight of your body on your bum that is being supported by the chair (until I mentioned it), even your urge to blink right now. You just blinked didn’t you?

Ok, Ok, so what has that got to do with increasing profits? Simple! We tend to shut out things that are ‘common occurrence’, ‘the norm’, and ‘the standard’ in favor of paying attention to things that stand out and are different. Knowing that, you can easily and very consciously set up your business/service/product/offer to be different than what is on the market. And when you do that, you will be guaranteed a huge jump in profits!

Let’s take a look at a couple of examples from different industries: (more…)
